Introduction to SSC CGL 2024
The SSC CGL exam is conducted annually to recruit staff for various posts in ministries, departments, and organizations of the Government of India. The exam is conducted in four tiers:
- Tier-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
- Tier-II: Main Examination (Objective Type)
- Tier-III: Descriptive Paper (Pen and Paper Mode)
- Tier-IV: Data Entry Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test (where applicable)
SSC CGL 2024 Eligibility Criteria
1. Nationality/Citizenship:
To be eligible for SSC CGL 2024, candidates must be:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling permanently in India, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of settling permanently in India.
2. Age Limit:
The age limit varies according to the post applied for. Generally, the age limit is between 18 to 32 years. Age relaxation is provided for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government rules:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwD (Unreserved): 10 years
- PwD (OBC): 13 years
- PwD (SC/ST): 15 years
- Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the closing date.
3. Educational Qualifications:
The educational qualifications required for different posts are as follows:
- Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer: Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or Institute. Desirable: CA/CS/MBA/Cost & Management Accountant/Masters in Commerce/Masters in Business Studies.
- Junior Statistical Officer: Bachelor's Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at 12th standard level or Bachelor's Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.
- Statistical Investigator Grade-II: Bachelor's Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects from a recognized University or Institute.
- All Other Posts: Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
4. Physical Fitness:
Some posts require candidates to meet specific physical standards. For example, the Inspector (Central Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector in CBI, and Sub-Inspector in NIA have specific physical standards and medical requirements. Candidates should refer to the official SSC CGL notification for detailed physical standards.
SSC CGL 2024 Exam Pattern
Tier-I:
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 25 questions (50 marks)
- General Awareness: 25 questions (50 marks)
- Quantitative Aptitude: 25 questions (50 marks)
- English Comprehension: 25 questions (50 marks)
- Total: 100 questions (200 marks)
- Duration: 60 minutes
Tier-II:
- Paper-I: Quantitative Abilities (200 marks)
- Paper-II: English Language and Comprehension (200 marks)
- Paper-III: Statistics (200 marks) (only for Junior Statistical Officer)
- Paper-IV: General Studies (Finance and Economics) (200 marks) (only for Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer)
- Each paper: 2 hours
Tier-III:
- Descriptive Paper in English or Hindi (100 marks)
- Duration: 60 minutes
Tier-IV:
- Data Entry Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test (as required for certain posts)
